Ethos

“I have always been passionate about researching ways to positively impact on children’s emotional wellbeing. This is because with a positive state of mind children are more likely to embrace challenges rather than fear them – helping them tackle life’s ups and downs with more confidence.” – Jennie Crossley

At Growing Minds we embrace the growth mindset theory – that every individuals’ abilities can improve with time, effort and positive thinking. Professor Carol Dweck believes a growth mindset is a wonderful gift to develop in children. This is because it will help them:

– Learn more –
– Learn things quicker –
– Be empowered to persist –
– See a FAIL as a First Attempt In Learning –
– View challenges as opportunities to improve
– Be more confident –
– Develop a life-long love of learning –

We also teach strategies to help our children become more mindful – a mental state that is achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. Mindfulness has been found to help children improve their abilities to:

– Pay attention –
– Calm down when they are upset –
– Make better decisions –

In short, mindfulness can help children with emotional regulation and cognitive focus.
